Neal Frederiksen has been involved in music since piano lessons beginning at age 7 and singing in choirs from age 5 onward. He was in the barbershop quartet in "The Music Man" during high school and joined the Barbershop Harmony Society soon after. He later sang lead in "The Quadratic Equation" barbershop quartet which won the Central States District Championship in 1979, and was an International Qualifier in 1981.
Neal holds degrees from Milliken University and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA. He has sung with opera companies in St. Louis, Boston, and Naples, FL., including a National tour of "Pirates of Penzance". In addition he performed with the St. Louis Symphony Chorus, The St. Louis Chamber Chorus, and the Bach Society. In a 40 year teaching career his choruses have been named "Best in Festival" no fewer than18 times and placed in the "Superior" category 39 times.
He has also performed in professional productions of summer stock musicals in 42 seasons and over 100 productions in St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Kansas City, Indianapolis and Atlanta, twice being in the barbershop quartet for "The Music Man". He has shared the stage with celebrated stars such as Gene Kelly, Vincent Price, Sid Caesar, Milton Berle, Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, Don Ameche, Joel Grey, Gloria De Haven and Donald O'Conner.....just to name a few.
He currently teaches music history at the Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton, and is a professional member of the choir of the Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea in Palm Beach. He is delighted to be part of the Hurricane Harmonizers, as dedicated a group of men as he has ever known.
